How to blog like a Pro (webmastery 123)

(Oct 17 2018 at 08:17am)

Thank you for stopping by. On this post I will be sharing my experience as a webmaster, what I feel worked and what didn't work. And how to act like a Pro or at least be better than younger me from 2011.

Starting a blog can sound like a fun thing and like a rewarding thing if you have already heard stories about how bloggers are making dollars via Adsense and other revenue channels. Well, both rumors are true, it can be fun and rewarding to run a blog or a website. But there is a third element to the story that you probably didn't hear of. I wont be diving deeper than this on any of those 3 elements. This post shall be about technical SEO and how to track your progress as you blog instead of just doing random stuffs.

1. Analytics
Yeah I will start with talking about analytics. My preferred tool for this is Google analytic. It is free a helps you to know how many people are visiting your site, where they are from, what device do they use to visit your site, what pages (content) are they viewing on your site.

The tool also tells you how people were able to find your site (traffic source). With this kind of data you can tell what is working and what isn't work. This will help you better plan on how to increase traffic on your site.

You can do a quick Google search on how to add Google Analytics to your site or visit http://analytics.google.com to get started.

2. Google Search Console (Webmasters tool)
Google is the leading search engine provider in the world. You can use google to get a lot of visitor to your website. People search google for answers to many things everyday. And if you position your site well, Google will refer those searchers to your website.

One way to get started with making your website visible on Google search result page is by adding it to webmasters console. To get started visit https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home and follow the instruction there to add your site.

When you have successfully added your site you can manually submit your new pages or blog posts to google search by using the "fetch as Google" option. Search Console also lets you view searches that your site is visible for and how much clicks you are getting, tho this data will only be available days after your site has been added to Google.

3. Links
Getting others to link to your site is a very good way to get new visitors. By linking to your site I mean people referring others to your website on the internet. One way to make this happen is to write original contents on your website. People that found your content useful are likely to share it with their friends on other site and on social media.

You can also get links to your site by asking other webmasters for it. One way to do this is to volunteer to post on another persons site in exchange for a link back to your site. You can also refer people from other sites to your site with link to contents that can help them in their current situation.

Please do not spam. Everyone hates spamming include Google. One of the aims of looking for links to your site is to improve your search ranking on Google so avoid unnecesary spamming. And focus on getting high quality links. You can learn more about quality links in a google search.

So that's all for now. In my next post I will be sharing more technical SEO tips like URL structure and page speed/accessibility. Peace! And do share this post with your friends if you find it helpful.
