Mobile banking is becoming more and more popular in Nigeria. I was at an event in November and it was stated that transactions worth over 1trn naira has been carried out using USSD.
USSD is the easiest way to carry out Mobile banking transactions in Nigeria without the worry of internet subscription and connectivity. Once you have network to make and receive calls you can access USSD services for free. You don't need a smartphone too, that's another cool thing about USSD, any phone that can dial let's say *556# (check mtn balance), can perform USSD Mobile banking.
All mainstream banks in Nigeria have their own unique USSD codes for carrying out transactions. E.g *737# for GTB, *901# for access bank and *901# for stanbicIBTC and so on.
Remembering these codes can be stressful if you have multiple bank accounts with different banks or you just started using your bank's USSD service. In order to address this, a Nigerian software development team built an app called USSD Banking, the app lists all Nigerian banks and their latest working USSD codes.
The app has other cool functions like "Share code" which let's you share any USSD code with your friends when they ask you for assistance with codes. You can also copy codes to your clipboard or push them to your phones dialer directly without typing them manually. The app works without internet hence saves you the stress of checking Google for codes.
