Man City vs Liverpool:team news, line-ups

Sep 09 2017 at 07:30am

Manchester City and Liverpool battle early on Saturday as the Premier League title hopefuls face off at the Etihad Stadium.

Both sides sit in the top four after collecting seven points from their opening three games, though City are still seeking a first home win after being held to a 1-1 draw by Everton.

Conversely, Liverpool have won both their home games - including a 4-0 demolition of Arsenal - but drew their only away game in a chaotic 3-3 clash at Watford on the opening day of the campaign.

A win for either Guardiola or Klopp in Saturday's early kick-off would send the victors top - at least before Manchester United play later in the day - though neither manager will want to lose further ground on Jose Mourinho's leaders.

Scroll down for Standard Sport's comprehensive preview...

Start time

Man City host Liverpool at the Etihad on Saturday, September 9, with kick-off scheduled for 12:30 BST.

The game will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports' Main Event and Premier League channels, with coverage starting at 11:30am. Alternatively, you can follow live goal updates

Team news

Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho will not be in the squad to face City as he is not match fit.

A back injury meant the Brazil international's first competitive action of the season was 47 minutes in two games for his country over the last week and Klopp does not think he is ready, but deadline-day signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be included.

Right-back Nathaniel Clyne is set for an extended spell on the sidelines with a back injury while Adam Lallana (thigh) is still working on his recovery.

Provisional squad: Mignolet, Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Matip, Moreno, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Can, Salah, Firmino, Mane, Karius, Gomez, Klavan, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Grujic, Sturridge, Solanke.

City will be without captain Vincent Kompany after he suffered a calf injury on international duty with Belgium.

Former Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling is suspended but right-back Kyle Walker is available again after his one-match ban.

Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is back in contention after returning to full training following his long-term knee injury.

Provisional squad: Ederson, Bravo, Walker, Danilo, Mendy, Otamendi, Stones, Adarabioyo, Mangala, Toure, Delph, Gundogan, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, D Silva, B Silva, Sane, Diaz, Foden, Aguero, Jesus.
