can religion and science blend without any friction?

I know from little facts they used to be a time when d church will try to stop people(researchers) who discover facts about the universe that was contrary to what the ancient church believed. And as for science it has questioned the existence of God in many ways (Charles Darwin for example). Now to the question can science and religion be right at the same time?
