As the communal clash between the Eggon and Kambari youths of Nasarawa
State continues unabated, scores of displaced persons have continued to flee
into communities of Benue State.
Many of the displaced persons who fled to neighbouring communities in Guma
and Makurdi LGAs of the state are taking refuge in classrooms of public
schools.
The victims of the crisis including men, women and children are seen moving
to Makurdi and other communities of the state with their belongings such as
household items and pets among others.
Yesterday, the popular Lafia Junction in Northbank area of Makurdi was a
beehive of activities as the refugees, looking famished and depressed entered
the place.
It was gathered that the displaced persons have also occupied some schools
in Gbajimba, the headquarters of Guma local government. Others were seen
scampering for shelter in an uncompleted building located along Makurdi-Lafia
road.
A man who simply identified himself as Iorngurum, told our reporter that he
had relocated his family to Northbank area of Makurdi but noted that he has no
house in the town and looking for a primary school in the area to take refuge.
At the Agan tollgate in Makurdi, a resident narrated that “the refugees are
trooping in hundreds and many of them do not have houses here.
